Musician Ykee Benda has no good things to say about his experience working with Nigerian singers. He has worked with Reekado Banks on a song dubbed Time Table, but he says it did not get the deserved attention because the Nigerians rarely promote collaborations with artistes outside their country.
Ykee says he will never work with Nigerians unless they contact him, and agree to push together. He says it’s not a worthy investment when you push alone.
“I would rather collaborate with Ugandan artistes. Nigerians will only get from me when they come but I’ll never go to them again,” Ykee Benda said in an interview with a local radio station.
He says artistes like Sheebah have been lucky to collaborate with singers who push. Sheebah worked with Orezi on the song, Sweet Sensation. It remains the biggest song by Sheebah ever viewed online.
Nigerians have a huge population online and offline, and exposure to them can do magic for any musician. Ykee says the Nigerian singers know their power and they rarely let anyone share the cake.
