It is a bitter pill to swallow for Mpaka Records boss, Ykee Benda to stomach the fact that his only artiste, besides himself, Dre Cali, left…without notice.
Dre Cali is said to have fled to Canada after it emerged that he had breached a contract with Wyse Technologies, a label onto which he was signed before crossing to Mpaka. Wyse sued Dre for entering an agreement with Mpaka before the expiry of his contract. Wyse demanded that Dre pays compensation of 80M plus. The hefty amount is said to have prompted Dre Cali to flee.
According to Ykee Benda, Mpaka records was working on a music album for him.
“We wanted him to have his maiden album. We were already preparing, and working on it. We recorded many songs, but we shall see what to do with them. The songs are ours,” Ykee said.
He reaffirmed that Dre Cali cannot use the name as it belongs to Mpaka records, and neither is he allowed to perform songs he did under the label in Uganda.
