We’re taught to not judge a book by its cover and, to be fair, that applies to many situations, but this is definitely not one of them. You know someone is not okay when they look like this.
On Monday night, Keko hosted an Instagram live that left many Ugandans in utter shock because of how “beaten” she looked. A lot of her fans were worried and dumbfounded as Keko looked dreadful on her Instagram live video. The skin on her face looked pale, scaly and dry and many have blamed her drug addiction for her current physical state. Others claim she looked high in the video and have mentioned that drug abuse was cited.
A number of Ugandans asked her what happened in the comment section but she didn’t seem to even notice the worry as she didn’t answer. Some people have accused the record label she was signed to though, Sony Music, claiming they shelved her career and this threw her into depression hence her decision to use drugs to cope.
However, it’s alleged that Keko was already struggling with her drug addiction way before the Sony Music thing even happened. Keko left Uganda for Canada a few years ago to pursue a film course but however, she decided to settle there, apparently because things “weren’t going so well”.
Twitter has been thrown into a somewhat frenzy as Ugandans have been calling upon different artistes in the hip-hop community and relevant authorities in both Canada and Uganda to reach out and help save Keko from drugs or in any way they can.
I wouldn’t call their actions “overreacting” though, the way she looked, seemed like a real cry for help. I must say though; I’m proud of how much people are taking this seriously and actually reaching out to help Keko in any way. A video resurfaced a few hours ago showing police in Keko’s residence and many are hoping this is the help that they’ve been asking for her to get.
A lot of Ugandans still take drug addiction and mental health as a joke, so maybe this is what they needed to see that things can get really bad.
We hope she gets the help she needs.
